Minimum age by category, the documents, how much the licence costs, and the most asked question of all: do you need a medical certificate if you wear glasses?
Before booking the exam it is worth checking three things: your age, your documents, and whether you need a medical assessment at all.
The minimum age depends on the category you are applying for:
| Category | Minimum age |
|---|---|
| "A", "B", "C" and "A1", "B1", "C1" | 18 |
| "BE", "CE", "DE" and "C1E", "D1E" | 19, and you must already hold the matching "B", "C" or "D" licence |
| "T" | 20 |
| "D" and "D1" | 21 (19 for those called up for military service), and you must already hold a "B", "C" or "C1" licence |
| Moped | 16 |
Anyone on the narcological or psychiatric register, or on the list of people disqualified from driving, is not admitted to the exam. The exam is taken in person: nobody can sit it on your behalf.
| What | How much |
|---|---|
| Theory exam | 3,000 drams |
| Practical exam | 13,000 drams (3,000 + 10,000) |
| Issuing, exchanging or replacing a lost licence | 12,000 drams |
The two amounts for the practical exam add up, they are not alternatives: the 3,000 drams is the state duty for the exam, and the 10,000 drams is the vehicle depreciation charge. That 10,000 drams is payable even if you take the exam in your own car.
So with no retakes, a driving licence costs 28,000 drams: 3,000 (theory) + 13,000 (practical) + 12,000 (the licence itself).
The short answer: no, glasses do not require a separate document. More than that, for most people a medical certificate is not mandatory at all.
Since 4 July 2026 the service receives medical data — including recommendations and restrictions — automatically from the ARMED system. A paper certificate is only submitted by foreign citizens and stateless persons, and in cases where ARMED is unavailable.
Do I need a certificate because of my glasses? No. What matters is your eyesight with the glasses on: if it is good enough, no restriction is recorded.
Is a medical assessment mandatory for category "B"? No, as long as you do not declare a problem.
How much does the theory exam cost? 3,000 drams. The practical exam is 13,000, and issuing the licence is 12,000 — 28,000 drams in total if everything works out first time.
