Medical gloves protect you both from infection: you from the victim's blood, and the wound from the germs on your hands. The wound is not washed and no ointment is put on it, so as not to damage the tissues, and removing a foreign body can cause bleeding.
In an accident, the main aim in treating an open wound is to prevent infection and bleeding without causing further harm. You need to put on medical gloves, cover the wound with a sterile gauze napkin without cleaning it, and fix the napkin in place. Trying to wash the wound or remove foreign bodies at the accident scene can make the bleeding worse or damage the tissues.
Option 1. Washing the wound, removing foreign bodies and putting cotton on it can cause heavy bleeding, damage the tissues and leave fibers in the wound.
Option 2. Putting an alcoholic iodine solution or ointment into an open wound can burn the tissues, cause severe pain and complicate further treatment.
